At our school we are sure to celebrate MLK Jr Day as well as Black History Month as our school is named Sgt. William H. Carney. In honor of MLK Jr., peace and brotherhood, we created this display in the hallway.
Each of my Kinders as well as my aides, volunteer and myself created a cute little person. I got the pattern from an old The Mailbox magazine. It is adorable! We will also be participating in the Black History Month program at our school next month. We will be singing this song along with 2 other Kindergarten classes:
Freedom, Freedom
(Sung to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle)
Freedom, freedom
let it ring,
let it ring said Dr. King.
Let us live in harmony,
Peace and love for you and me.
Freedom, freedom
let it ring,
let it ring said Dr. King.
How cute is that? I cannot wait to see my Kinders perform this one!
Matthew was singing that song last week. I think he learned it at daycare because his PK teacher sings a different one (tune of Mary had a Little Lamb, don't know all the words). Very interesting read on Sgt. Carney! I never really thought about the people our schools are named after! I love your display as well :)
